Longman Welcome To English 5B

1. Analysis of Content

The design of this lesson wasinspired by Miss Gui Tingting. She is good at combining language use withstudents’ emotions, and therefore her students are eager to speak their mind. Theteaching material used in this lesson was selected from Advice on eatingin Longman Welcome To English 5B Chapter 4. I found this topicperfectly fits our Grade Five students, because it contains a food pyramid whichconveys healthy eating habits. To precisely describe this ideal food pyramid,students should distinguish singular and plural forms from uncountable nouns,properly use certain quantifiers to modify, and truly realize why some eatinghabits are unhealthy. These are all mentioned in this teaching material.Besides, healthy eating habits can positively influence students’ entire life,but some of them still stick to the unhealthy ones. Maybe after this lesson,they will understand more about different eating habits and be able to giveadvice on eating.

2. Analysis of Students

Target students are from GradeFive. They have mastered some food words and therefore can sort out ascountable and uncountable nouns. They have also learned to modify these nounswith different quantifiers, e.g. a few/little, some, a lot of. In this lesson,students will learn more new quantifiers, e.g. plenty of, enough, not toomuch/many, and some other skills on giving advice. Together with their existingknowledge, students should be able to think, analyze, and organize in class.

4. Key Points

1Define certain foodwords as singular forms, plural forms or uncountable nouns.

2Use propermodifiers/quantifiers especially few/little, much/many, some, a lot of, plentyof, enough to modify these words.

5. Difficult Points

1 Students may find it hard to truly understand or precisely explain whysome eating habits are unhealthy.

2 Students may find it difficult to properly convey their advice. Theymay oversee their mistakes or focus too much on self correction when talking.
