A man who has gone out of his town comes back and finds that his house is on fire. It was one of the most beautiful houses in the town, and the man loved the house the most! Many were ready to give a double price for the house, but he had never agreed for any price and now it is just burning before his eyes.

一个从镇上回来的人，发现他的房子着火了。那可是镇上最美丽的房子之一，这个人最爱这所房子！许多人曾愿为这套房子开出双倍的价钱，但他从未同意过要价，而现在熊熊烈火却在眼前。

And thousands of people have gathered, but nothing can be done, the fire has spread so far that even if you try to put it out, nothing will be saved. So he became very sad.

成千上万的人们聚集在一起，但无爱莫能助，大火已蔓延很远，即使要扑救也无济于事。因此他变得非常难过。

His son comes and whispers something in his ear, “Don’t be worried. I sold it yesterday and at a very good price. The offer was so good, I could not wait for you. Forgive me.”

他儿子跑来跑去，在耳边低语：“别担心。昨天我以非常好的价格卖了房子。报价很好，我等不及你了。原谅我。”

The Father said, “thank God, it’s not ours now!” Then he became relaxed and stood as a silent watcher, just like 1000s of other watchers.

父亲说：“感谢上帝，现在它不属于我们！”然后他放松下来，像一个沉默寡言的旁观者一样站着，就像其他成千上万的人一样。

Then the second son comes running, and he says to the father, “What are you doing? the house is on fire and you are only watching it burn?” The father said, “Don’t you know, your brother has sold it.”

然后二子跑来对父亲说：“你在做什么？房屋着火了，你只看着它这样烧吗？”父亲说：“你不知道吗，你哥已经卖掉了。”

He said, “we have taken the only advance amount, not settled fully. I doubt now that the man is going to purchase it now.”

他说：“我们只预付了一笔预付款，还没有完全结清。我现在怀疑那个人现在要买它。”

Tears which had disappeared came back to the father’s eyes, his heart started to beat fast. And then the third son comes, and he says, “That man is a man of his word. I have just come from him.” He said, “It doesn’t matter whether the house is burnt or not, it is mine. And I am going to pay the price that I have settled for. Neither you knew, nor I knew that the house would catch on fire.”

消失的眼泪回到了父亲的眼中，他的心开始跳动。然后三儿子来了，他说：“那人是个信守承诺的人。我是从他那里来的。”他说，“房子是否被烧都没关系，是我的，我就会付出我已经定好的价。你不知道会着火，我也不知道。”

Then all just stood and watched the house burn without a worry.

然后所有人都站着，看着房子在燃烧，却不去担心。

Moral: This is a very complicated human nature to describe. Even though the person loved his house which he lost, he became relaxed knowing it was not his anymore. He never wanted to give it away till it was beautiful but, as soon as it started to lose its beauty, he didn’t mind letting it go for a profit.

道理：这是非常复杂的人性描述。即使这人失去了心爱的房子，也能冷静下来，因为知道不再是他的房子了。直到把房子变得美丽，都没想要卖掉他的房子，而一旦房子失去它美丽的价值，他却也不介意卖掉赚点钱了。

Sorrow and Happiness followed after each son came with their advice. But, the most important thing to understand is, how his feeling changed. How the ratio of loss and profit changed his feelings towards a house, which he loved the most.

每个儿子提出建议后，悲伤和幸福感随之而来。但是有必要明白的是他的感觉是如何变化的。损益的考量如何改变了他对自己最爱的房子的那种感觉。

This is how in the present time we have come to give a priority to our relations and friendship – based on loss or profit ratio. Everyone should understand this story and put their own morals.

这就是我们现在基于损失或收益率来优先考量关系和友谊的方式。每个人都应该了解这个故事，并讲出自己的道理来。
